Habitat Homeowners Monica (last year’s Nissan Build), Andrew and Engy (2017 Faith Build), Anika (2018 Veterans Build), Elexecia (2018’s Nissan Build), Alicia (this year’s Nissan Build) & Shelley (2016 Schneider Electric Build) work on Monica’s Nissan Build house in LaVergne.

Habitat Future Homeowners get to know one another as they go through the 30-week Financial & Homeowner Education Program and complete 300-400 hours of “sweat equity” working on various Habitat houses. They are also often neighbors. We build in Murfreesboro, Smyrna and LaVergne.

Alicia’s Bio: 

“I know that becoming a homeowner will be a lot of responsibility but it is a good responsibility, something I have been working towards for a long time.”

Alicia grew up in a small town in KY and after graduating from high school she worked part time at a grocery store and part time at Easter Seals working with mentally challenged individuals. She knew she had to leave her small town for more career opportunities and much of her family had already moved to Tennessee, so she decided to join them. She welcomed her daughter Marlee in 2014 and was able to stay with family while she got settled and made career choices.

Alicia always wanted to have her own home but could not afford a conventional mortgage. Years ago she had helped a friend with their “sweat equity” for a Habitat house and she eventually decided to apply for the program and was accepted.

The Habitat program and financial literacy classes have given Alicia the knowledge to be a confident homeowner. Finally, after spending most of her adult life moving around or living with someone else, Alicia is looking forward to finally having a place of her own, a home where her daughter can grow up, and a place that will provide her with the stability to establish herself in the foundation of her new home.
