Elexecia’s Bio:

Elexecia (“Lexi”) and her siblings grew up in downtown Murftreesboro in low-incoming housing. She had dreams of finishing school, owning her own restaurant, and being a homeowner. However, to help support her family, Lexi joined the workforce. As years passed, she continued to work hard and began raising her own family.

Lexi tried to buy a home but she did not make enough income to qualify for a conventional mortgage. With the encouragement from her family, she applied to the Habitat Program but was not accepted the first time around. Lexi did not give up and took the necessary steps to improve her chances and reapplied in 2016. She was so happy when she received the news that she was now a future homeowner in the Habitat Program.

For the first time in a long time, Lexi truly feels like the possibilities are endless. She is currently employed at Carlex, working on her GED, attending her homeowner education classes, putting in the required sweat equity, and is excited to start her home build. The home will be built in LaVergne and her family agrees a new city is just what Lexi needs to continue on this exciting journey. She has future plans of taking businesses classes and owning her own soul food restaurant.

Lexi and her family would like to thank Nissan for providing both the funding and volunteers to help build her home – and to thank Kingwood Church of Christ for their “Panel Build” on April 21, where all of the walls for her house will be built!

She would like to thank her Aunt Kathy for being her Habitat role-model and her Habitat family for constant support and encouragement. The children are looking forward to having their own rooms, and Lexi is hoping to have a garden for the delicious food she cooks. The entire family feels blessed to have a new beginning.
